Billable Hours Calculator: Time & Fees
Add billable time in hours and minutes, then calculate an estimated charge from your hourly rate. Use exact minutes or select an agreed billing increment.
Calculate billable hours and fees
Enter up to five durations, not clock times. Leave unused entries blank. Within a used entry, a blank hours or minutes field counts as zero. Enter only time that is billable under your agreement.

One hourly rate applies to all entries. Taxes, discounts, retainers, expenses, minimum fees, and other contract adjustments are excluded. This is a calculation aid, not an invoice.
Your entries are calculated in this browser. This tool does not save or send them. Google Blogger may separately provide its own platform services and cookies.

How to calculate billable hours
Decimal hours = total billable minutes / 60. Then multiply decimal hours by the hourly rate. For example, 2 hours 30 minutes equals 150 minutes, or 2.5 hours. At $80 per hour, the charge is $200.00.
Do not treat 2 hours 30 minutes as 2.30 hours. Thirty minutes is half an hour, so the correct decimal value is 2.50.
Billing increments: exact minutes versus rounding
Under exact-minute billing, a 7-minute task remains 7 minutes. With an agreed 6-minute increment rounded up, it becomes 12 billable minutes, or 0.2 hours. With a 15-minute increment rounded up, it becomes 15 minutes, or 0.25 hours.
Separate-entry rounding can change the total. Two 7-minute entries rounded up separately to 6-minute increments total 24 billable minutes. Combining them into one 14-minute entry before rounding would give 18 minutes. Follow your agreement and avoid splitting work merely to increase fees.
Frequently asked questions
Which activities are billable?
Your agreement determines that. Client work, meetings, travel, and administrative time may be treated differently. This tool does not decide eligibility or subtract nonbillable time.
Does the calculator automatically round to a tenth of an hour?
No. Exact minutes is the default. Choose the 6-minute option only when appropriate: six minutes equals 0.1 hours, and this option always rounds each entry upwards.
Can I use different rates?
This version applies one rate to all entries. Calculate different-rate work separately. The charge is rounded once for the combined time at that rate, so separately rounded invoice lines can differ by a cent.
Can I enter decimal hours?
Use whole hours and minutes here. For 1.5 hours, enter 1 hour and 30 minutes. Each entry accepts up to 10,000 hours and minutes from 0 to 59. The optional positive hourly rate accepts up to $1,000,000 with two decimal places.
Does this include taxes or overtime premiums?
No. The result is time multiplied by a single rate, before taxes, expenses, or other adjustments.
