Patio pavers, packs, and cost
How many pavers do I need for a patio?
Whole purchase units = round up [net patio area x (1 + allowance / 100) / installed coverage per purchase unit]. If the supplier states the number of pieces in that unit, purchased pieces = rounded units x pieces per unit. Mixed-size pieces are counted together; this does not provide quantities by individual size.
Example: packs and purchased pieces
A 12 ft by 10 ft patio has 120 sq ft of net area. An illustrative 10% allowance gives 132 sq ft. With 20 sq ft per pack, round 6.6 up to 7 packs. At 40 pieces per pack, this means 280 purchased pieces. At an illustrative $50 per pack, paver material cost is $350. These values are examples, not product specifications or recommended prices.
What if I buy individual 4 x 8 pavers?
Ask the supplier for installed coverage per piece for the specified joint and pattern. Choose one piece as the purchase unit and enter 1 for pieces per unit. Nominal dimensions alone may differ from actual dimensions and installed coverage.
What costs are excluded?
The estimate covers purchased pavers only. Base aggregate, bedding material, jointing sand, edging, delivery, tax, equipment, and installation labor are separate. It does not specify base depth, drainage, slope, excavation, or structural suitability. Follow local requirements and product installation guidance.
