Business Days Calculator: Count Workdays Between Dates

Count business days between two dates using your chosen excluded weekdays and closure dates. Choose whether each boundary date is included. No public-holiday calendar is applied automatically.

Count workdays between dates

Excluded weekdays (not counted as business days)

Enter actual closure dates as YYYY-MM-DD, separated by lines, spaces, commas, or semicolons (up to 1,000 entries). The placeholder is an input example, not an active holiday list. Duplicates count once; dates on excluded weekdays or outside the selected interval do not subtract another day.

Saturday and Sunday are excluded by default, and both boundary dates are included if eligible. Change these settings for your calendar. The end date must not precede the start date. All calculations use Gregorian date-only values, not timestamps or local daylight-saving hours.

Enable JavaScript to calculate. Select the included date interval, remove excluded weekdays, then remove each unique eligible closure date once.

How do you calculate business days?

Start with the calendar dates allowed by the selected boundary settings. Remove the weekdays you marked as excluded. Then subtract listed closure dates only when they fall within that interval and would otherwise count as business days. A closure already on an excluded weekday cannot reduce the result twice.

Worked example: one working week

From Monday, November 2, 2026, to Friday, November 6, 2026, the default Monday-to-Friday calendar gives 5 business days when both dates are included. Excluding the start date gives 4. Keeping both included and entering November 4 as a closure also gives 4. These examples demonstrate counting rules, not a holiday policy.

What does including an endpoint mean?

Including a boundary only makes that date eligible for consideration. A Saturday remains excluded if Saturday is selected, even when Include start date is checked. A same-day interval gives 1 only when both boundaries include that date and the date is neither an excluded weekday nor a listed closure. Excluding either boundary makes that same-day count zero.

Are US holidays included automatically?

No. Add the dates that your organization actually closes, including observed dates when applicable. A public holiday name does not by itself establish a private employer's calendar. This tool does not infer observed closures, shift holiday dates, or validate that your list is complete.

Can I add a number of business days?

This tool counts between two supplied dates. It does not calculate a future date by adding workdays. Adding calendar days and adding business days are different operations; do not interpret a between-dates count as a contractual delivery promise.

What if my weekend is different?

Select any weekdays you want excluded. Selecting none makes all weekdays potentially eligible before closures; selecting all seven gives zero business days. The same weekly pattern applies throughout the interval. Use separate calculations if the working schedule changes during the range.

Why does another calculator give a different answer?

Compare endpoint inclusion, excluded weekdays, holiday lists, and regional date formatting. A count based on the same dates can differ if any of those assumptions differ. Dates in the result are shown as YYYY-MM-DD to clarify their meaning.

Calendar days instead?

Read the guide to calendar date arithmetic for elapsed days and inclusive date counts. Confirm the relevant rules separately for legal, tax, employment, or shipping deadlines.
