Composite Decking Cost Calculator: Boards & Budget
Estimate composite deck surface boards by area, then plan costs using your own board price and quotes. This is a material coverage estimate, not a board layout or structural design.

How to estimate composite decking boards
For a rectangle, deck area = length x width. Board area = actual board length x actual board width in matching units. Multiply deck area by (1 + allowance / 100), divide by one board's area, and round up to whole boards. In US mode, board width in inches is divided by 12; in metric mode, millimeters are divided by 1,000.
Worked example
A 12 x 10 ft surface is 120 sq ft. A board 12 ft long and 5.5 inches wide has an area of 5.5 sq ft. With an illustrative 10% allowance, 132 / 5.5 = 24 boards. At an illustrative $30 each, board cost is $720. Add an entered $500 framing quote, $800 installation quote, and $100 of other costs for a $2,120 budget. These prices are arithmetic examples, not market estimates.
Does this estimate local installation prices?
No. It uses your prices and quotes. The total includes only the items you entered. It does not estimate regional labor rates, structural work, permit fees, or sales tax automatically. Leave the board price blank for quantities only.
Can this design a safe deck?
No. Structural requirements, framing spacing, connections, foundations, guards, product suitability, and permits require a separate design and checks against manufacturer instructions and applicable requirements. A surface-area estimate cannot confirm structural adequacy.
