How to convert hourly pay to a yearly estimate

Annual gross earnings = hourly rate x hours per paid week x paid weeks per year.

At $25 per hour, 40 hours per week, and 52 paid weeks, the result is $52,000 per year. The monthly average is $52,000 / 12 = $4,333.33. One paid workweek is $1,000.

Example with unpaid time off

At $20 per hour and 40 hours per week, four unpaid weeks leave 48 paid weeks. The annual estimate is $20 x 40 x 48 = $38,400, with a monthly average of $3,200. A paid workweek remains $800. Unpaid weeks do not generate earnings in this model.

Frequently asked questions

Is this my take-home pay?

No. The result is gross earnings before federal, state, or local taxes, benefit contributions, and other deductions. It does not estimate take-home pay.

Does an hourly estimate become a guaranteed salary?

No. An hourly-to-salary conversion is a comparison based on the schedule you enter. It does not change your employment terms or guarantee paid hours, paid leave, or an annual salary.

Why use 52 weeks?

It is a common annualization assumption, not an exact count of workdays or payroll dates for a particular calendar year. Use fewer paid weeks when your schedule includes unpaid weeks. This version accepts 1 to 52 whole paid weeks.

How should I enter hours and minutes?

Weekly hours are decimal hours. Enter 37.5 for 37 hours 30 minutes, not 37.30. Use our Hours & Minutes to Decimal Calculator if you need a conversion.

Does it apply overtime or different pay rates?

No. Every hour is multiplied by one rate. Overtime premiums, multiple rates, tips, commissions, bonuses, and employer benefit costs are not included. A schedule above 40 hours is not automatically handled as overtime.

What inputs are supported?

Hourly rate: $0 to $10,000. Weekly hours: greater than 0 and up to 168. Both accept up to two decimal places, using a decimal point or comma (for example, 25.50 or 25,50). Paid weeks must be a whole number from 1 to 52. Changing any input clears the previous result until you calculate again.
