How to Generate Random Numbers: 5 Digits, Decimals and No Repeats

A random number generator selects values from a range you define. Before drawing, decide whether you need whole numbers, decimal values, or a list without repeats. Also distinguish the number of digits in each result from the number of results you want. Those settings describe different tasks and can produce very different lists.

The Random Number Generator supports integers, fixed-precision decimals, a five-digit preset and optional sampling without replacement. It displays results in draw order. Both the minimum and maximum belong to the range.

Generate a random five-digit number

A five-digit positive integer runs from 10000 through 99999. To count the available integers, subtract the minimum from the maximum and add one: 99999 - 10000 + 1 = 90000. The added one accounts for including both endpoints.

Click 5-Digit Numbers to load these bounds in integer mode. Then choose Quantity and generate your list. The preset keeps your quantity and repeat preference, so check those settings before drawing. Setting Quantity to 5 generates five separate five-digit numbers; it does not define their digit length.

A string such as 00482 has five characters but represents the integer 482. If your task requires fixed-length codes with leading zeros, that is a separate formatting convention. This tool's five-digit preset produces ordinary five-digit integers and does not add leading zeros.

Choose a custom integer range

For a classroom activity using values from 1 through 30, enter Minimum 1 and Maximum 30. Set Quantity to the number of selections needed. With repeats allowed, the same value can appear more than once. That is a valid outcome of separate draws, not proof that the generator is broken.

Negative bounds are supported, and the minimum may equal the maximum. A range from 7 through 7 contains one value. It can produce several copies of 7 when repeats are allowed, but it cannot provide two distinct results.

Draw without repeats

No-repeat mode samples without replacement within the current list. For integer bounds 1 and 30, at most thirty distinct results are available. Asking for thirty-one must be rejected rather than silently repeating a number or changing the range.

The restriction applies only to the list being generated. Drawing again begins a new draw, so values from the previous list may appear again. This tool does not maintain a classroom participation history or remember earlier selections. Keep a separate record if your activity requires that broader rule.

Generate decimal values at a chosen precision

Select Decimals and choose one to four decimal places. The generator selects from a discrete grid at that precision. From 0 to 1 with two decimal places, the possible results are 0.00, 0.01 and so on through 1.00. That makes 101 values, not 100, because both endpoints are included.

Without repeats, you can draw all 101 values from that grid. You cannot draw 102 distinct values. The bounds must also fit the selected precision: 0.001 cannot be used as a bound when only two decimal places are selected. Increase precision or change the bound deliberately.

Understand selection and limits

The browser provides random values through crypto.getRandomValues. The generator maps them into your range using rejection sampling, avoiding the mapping bias that a simple remainder operation can introduce. No-repeat mode selects without replacement instead of repeatedly guessing until it happens to find unused values.

Quantity is limited to 1000 results, and each bound must lie between negative and positive one billion. At the selected precision, the range may contain no more than 4294967296 possible values. A very wide decimal range may therefore require fewer decimal places or narrower bounds.

Copy results and state the purpose

Use Copy results after generating. If browser permissions prevent automatic copying, the tool selects the output so you can use your browser's copy command. Settings and results are not saved by this generator, and changing a setting hides the previous output.

Browser randomness is not a claim of physical true randomness, certified drawings or suitability for creating security keys. A random selection cannot improve lottery odds. For everyday exercises, state your bounds, precision, quantity and repeat rule so other people understand exactly what the draw represents.
